Upgrading M-8080D Digital Matrix Mixer System to Version 3.0: Tips & Information to Consider

With the release of the M-8080D V3 firmware in June of 2026, the TOA Canada team has introduced powerful new features—including mobile app compatibility, enhanced control, and improved system flexibility. If you’re considering upgrading your existing system, it’s essential to follow the correct process to ensure compatibility and avoid potential issues. The following guide walks you through everything you need to know before performing an upgrade.

Step 1: Identify Your Device Version
The first and most important step is to determine whether your unit is eligible for the V3 update.
✅ Check the Control Number
•    D01 devices
•    Factory-equipped with the latest firmware (2026 production onward)
•    ✅ No update required
•    D00 devices
•    May be eligible—but only under specific conditions

Step 2: Confirm Production Lot Compatibility
If you have a D00 unit, you must verify its production lot number before proceeding.
✅ Eligible for Upgrade
•    D00 devices produced in Lot 23L60 or later
❌ Not Compatible
•    D00 devices produced before Lot 23L60
•    Attempting to upgrade these units can result in system malfunction or hardware damage

How to Read the Lot Number
Example: 23L60
•    23 → Year of production (2023)
•    L → Month (December, using alphanumeric indexing)
•    60 → Batch number

Step 3: Evaluate Mobile App Compatibility (Coming Soon to Apple App Store & Google Play Store)
The new TOA mobile apps (iOS & Android) are only supported under these conditions:
•    ✅ D01 units (no upgrade needed)
•    ✅ D00 units (Lot 23L60+) after upgrading to V3
If your system does not meet these criteria, mobile functionality will not be available.

Step 4: Review Critical Pre-Upgrade Considerations
Before you begin the upgrade process, be aware of the following:
⚠️ All Settings Will Be Erased
•    Firmware upgrades will wipe all system settings and presets
•    You must:
•    Back up configurations (if possible)
•    Plan for complete reprogramming after the update

⚠️ M-800RCT Compatibility Check
•    M-800RCT D01 → Compatible with V3
•    M-800RCT D00 → Not currently compatible
If your system includes an M-800RCT D00 unit, upgrading the M-8080D is not recommended at this time.
A dedicated firmware update for the D00 touch panel is still under development.

Step 5: Perform the Firmware Upgrade
Once eligibility is confirmed and precautions are taken:
1.    Proceed with the V3 firmware upgrade using TOA Canada’s official update tools and process
2.    Ensure stable power and network conditions during the update
3.    Do not interrupt the process, doing so can result in system malfunction or hardware damage

Step 6: Reconfigure Your System
After a successful upgrade:
•    Rebuild:
•    Input/output routing
•    Groups and channel pairings
•    Presets and user settings
•    Reconfigure network settings (including Static IP if needed)
•    Test system functionality thoroughly

The V3 update brings significant improvements to the M-8080D platform—but only when deployed correctly. By carefully confirming eligibility, preparing for system resets, and ensuring hardware compatibility, installers and users can confidently unlock the full benefits of this upgrade.
