Toronto City Hall - Wheel-Trans Pickup
Ontario's capital and one of the most densely populated urban centers in Canada, the city of Toronto is a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, paired with parks and open spaces found throughout the sprawling city. With a current population of nearly 3 million, Toronto serves not only as a multi-cultural melting pot, but also a international hub for business, finance, arts, sports, and culture.
Purpose
These facilities serve as public-orientated, safe, and reliable transportation options for persons with disabilities within the city. Building upon the existing TOA N-8000 intercom system already being used by the city, facilitators were looking to increase the functionality of systems in place and provide both staff and riders a better experience overall.
Challenge
These facilities serve as Toronto's para-transit service that provides a safe and reliable accessible transit option for persons with disabilities, as such the most pressing concerns were that the new system would better the user experience for all parties involved, whilst not compromising on security or clear communication. Additionally, implementing video was also quite the desirable feature as this would add another layer of verification and data for operators. The new system would also need to be compatible TOA N-8000 system that the TTC and the City of Toronto already have in place.
Solution
This project was expedited by the City of Toronto after holding a forum for public input, with feedback from public consultations and various comments by Wheel-Trans users desiring elevated security measures over what is currently in place. The installation of the N-SP80VS1 station offers the desired video function for users in addition to audio communication functionality, and the camera being equipped with night-view functionality, a clear picture is delivered irrespective of time or conditions. The N-SP80MS1 multimedia station serves as the operator's interface for communicating with commuters, providing all desired functions and features in a single, easy-to-use device. All of which ties back into the pre-existing TOA N-8000 system, which allowed for this modular growth to be installed without issue.
Feedback
With the new components now in place, wheel-trans commuters and operators alike now have access to an elevated two-way communications system. With this being the latest instance of TOA products being installed within the City of Toronto’s facilities, we are happy to continue to aid in bettering the user experiences and lives of residents, and look forward to working with the city again.
