Education

Founded in 1961, Royal St. George’s College is an independent boys’ school (Grades 3-12) located in Toronto, Ontario, dedicated to fostering academic excellence, character development, and community engagement. As the campus continues to evolve to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff, reliable communication infrastructure has become increasingly important to support daily operations, safety, and school-wide coordination.

Purpose

The purpose of this project was to implement a modern IP-based public address and paging system within one of the college's campus buildings. The new system would need to provide faculty and administration with the ability to deliver announcements, communicate important information, and improve overall operational efficiency throughout the facility.

Challenges

A key challenge was the project's timeline, which required that the system be installed and functional within a tight turnaround, while also minimizing disruption to ongoing school activities. Prior to this project, the building had historically relied on a traditional bell system and lacked a dedicated public address infrastructure, making the project a significant modernization effort rather than a simple upgrade into existing infrastructure.

Solution

Our IP-A1 series alongside other TOA peripherals were utilized in a Hybrid IP Paging setup, providing a flexible and scalable communication platform capable of meeting both current and future requirements. Replacing the building's existing bell-only system, the new solution introduced the ability to broadcast live and scheduled announcements throughout the facility for the first time. The system combines IP paging gateways, remote microphones, audio interfaces, amplifiers, and distributed analog loudspeakers to deliver clear, intelligible announcements throughout the building. Its network-based architecture also provides a straightforward path for future expansion, allowing additional buildings to be integrated into a unified campus-wide communication system.

Feedback

The new system has been very well received by faculty and administration. Following the successful deployment, the college has accelerated plans to expand the solution into additional campus buildings. Future phases are expected to connect multiple facilities through the campus network, creating a unified communications platform that will provide consistent paging and announcement capabilities across the broader Royal St. George’s College campus.
