Sports Complexes

The Point Edward Arena is active all year long, with ice in from the end of September, all the way to to mid-April of each year. In between these points, the arena hosts in-line hockey, taking place on the specialized flooring for the summer months.

Purpose

The goal of this installation was for the arena to have a brand-new sound system that would elevate user experiences drastically when compared to the system in place. This sound system needed to be reliable and intelligible, and able to provide clear, distinguishable sound for visitors to understand public announcements and other communications.

Challenge

Facilitators and installers made the right choice in coming to TOA for their sound solution, this installation went about as frictionlessly as possible. There were no challenges of note throughout.

Solution

For the installation, our Regional Sales Manager recommended HX-5 and FB-120 arranged in clusters at center ice and around the bleacher area. The audio was driven by the powerful DA-550 multichannel amplifier and enhanced with our excellent A-9120DHM2 digital mixer.

Full area coverage and wider bandwidth sound.

The HX-5 is an innovative modular speaker design that incorporates the best characteristics of the traditional, cumbersome woofer enclosure combined with a CD horn-loaded high frequency driver and the full-range compact speaker enclosure without the drawbacks associated with each type. the HX-5 features remarkably easy to control coverage characteristics including problematic low frequencies and can be installed in a multitude of ways while maintaining a modern, unobtrusive appearance. a system is configured by four preassembled modules with four IF drivers and twelve HF dome tweeters. This configuration allows the variable directivity control and low-frequency dispersion control comparable to use a large constant directivity horn speaker. a choice of 4 directivity angles (15, 30, 45 and 60 degrees) can be employed as needed.
