The Northside Arena, located within the Willie O'Ree Place, contains Two NHL-sized ice surfaces, 11 dressing rooms, offices for officials and event organizers, an indoor walking track, three community rooms, and canteens.

Purpose

The purpose of this installation was to elevate the PA system in both arenas, both in quality and function. The main added desire was that the two systems could be controlled from one place, in addition to it also needing to provide a strong clear sound.

Challenge

The primary challenge was caused by the differences between the two arenas, meaning that there was a need to design two slightly different systems to match the different sizes of the two arenas, but having them both managed from one place, additionally, make this composite system easy to use.

Solution

TOA recommended the combination of HX-5's speakers and FB-120 subwoofers powered by the DA-550 multi-channel amplifier. This is a classic setup for many arenas as it can be configured to the specific space with ease.

The HX-5 is an innovative modular speaker design that incorporates the best characteristics of the traditional, cumbersome woofer enclosure combined with a CD horn-loaded high frequency driver and the full-range compact speaker enclosure without the drawbacks associated with each type. the HX-5 features remarkably easy to control coverage characteristics including problematic low frequencies and can be installed in a multitude of ways while maintaining a modern, unobtrusive appearance. a system is configured by four preassembled modules with four IF drivers and twelve HF dome tweeters. This configuration allows the variable directivity control and low-frequency dispersion control comparable to use a large constant directivity horn speaker. a choice of 4 directivity angles (15, 30, 45 and 60 degrees) can be employed as needed.
