Purpose
The Mic Mac Mall required an enhancement of the public address (PA) system in order to guarantee clear paging, particularly during emergencies, along with high-quality background music at a steady volume level. The upgrades were designated for the consumer area of the mall.
Challenges
The mall's previous voice paging system had been causing a lot of trouble. Many customers complained that the announcements were unclear and hard to hear. It's not surprising considering the system was about 15 years old. The speakers used were flat 8" speakers, each with a power of 2 watts. The amplifier rack had three TOA 900 Series Modular Mixer/Amplifiers (A-903MK2), each consuming 60 watts of power and 5 amps for the entire mall. Unfortunately, these amplifiers were not able to handle the load and were overburdened.
Solution
Duocom’s Halifax Office was chosen to design, install, and support the PA system for the Mic Mac Mall. The facility manager had a strict deadline in mind for the upgrade, and Duocom had to ensure it was completed on time.
Duocom opted for TOA’s PA products due to their numerous features that perfectly aligned with the mall's requirements. The products offered consistent sound levels, high-quality sound, and excellent zone paging features. Both Duocom and the mall's facility manager appreciated the ability to monitor the system with an Ambient Noise Module (AN001T). TOA stood out as the ideal choice for Duocom because of the ease of design and installation, versatility, and competitive pricing.
To enhance the consumer areas of the mall, Duocom installed 151 of TOA’s F-2352C - Co-axial 5” Ceiling Speakers. The old speakers were replaced, and the new speakers were fitted into the existing speaker holes using trim rings for a perfect fit. The wider speaker spacing worked well for the new speakers, which are now tapped at 5 watts each compared to the original 2 watts. TOA’s F-Series Ceiling Speakers offer wide dispersion, ensuring enhanced sound quality and better intelligibility for paging, emergency announcements, and background music.

The feedback from the Customer Service Team at Mic Mac Mall is extremely positive. They mentioned that pages can now be heard and understood clearly, eliminating the need for re-paging. The entire management and staff at Mic Mac Mall are thrilled with the PA system upgrade and are confident that it will make their jobs much easier.
