The Innovation Credit Union iPlex, Swift Current, SK

Sports Complexes

The Innovation Credit Union iPlex is a 2,879-seat multi-purpose arena in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada. The arena was built in 1967 as a Canadian Centennial project and originally known as the Centennial Civic Centre. In 2007, Swift Current city council approved a $14 million expansion to the Centennial Civic Centre. Construction of the hockey/curling complex was completed in the fall of 2007.

Purpose

Arena management was in need of audio/security requirements along with high SPL with good intelligibility in a reverberant environment for hockey, rodeos other events.

Challenge

This installation's primary challenge arose during the planning phase, there was deliberations back and forth on the order in which this project would progress, arena management was weary to segment the installation into three sections.

Solution

To ensure the project ran smoothly, the installation started on the end zone, which is the smallest part of the arena. Integrators then worked to the other end of the arena in 2 phases. To enhance sound intelligibility and minimize reverberation in the arena, TOA speakers were set up in 44 clusters around the arena each including 2 HX-7 and 1 FB-150 subwoofer.

Feedback

The thunderous sound from the speakers during the home opener for the Swift Current Broncos had more than met expectations. The Arena was very happy with the new sound system and the fans appear to greatly enjoy it.
