The Eddie Bush Arena is an iconic venue in Collingwood, known for hosting hockey games, community events, and concerts. With its rich history and central role in the town’s recreational life, the arena was due for a sound system upgrade to meet modern standards of clarity and coverage.

Purpose

The primary goal of the installation was to modernize the arena’s sound system, improving audio intelligibility for announcements, music playback, and live events.

Challenge

As with many arenas, the Eddie Bush Arena faced poor speech intelligibility due to reflective surfaces and high ceilings. Additionally, excessive reverberation that muddled sound clarity across the venue.

Solution

To overcome these acoustic challenges, 9 HX-5B Line Array Speakers were installed strategically to deliver focused sound coverage and significantly improve speech intelligibility. The system was designed to provide even distribution of audio throughout the arena, minimizing echo and dead zones.

Feedback

The upgrade has been met with enthusiastic praise, with one facilitator stating that because of this new system, “the Eddie Bush Arena sounds great!” The success of this installation has already led to new project opportunities.

The HX-5 is an innovative modular speaker design that incorporates the best characteristics of the traditional, cumbersome woofer enclosure combined with a CD horn-loaded high frequency driver and the full-range compact speaker enclosure without the drawbacks associated with each type. the HX-5 features remarkably easy to control coverage characteristics including problematic low frequencies and can be installed in a multitude of ways while maintaining a modern, unobtrusive appearance. a system is configured by four preassembled modules with four IF drivers and twelve HF dome tweeters. This configuration allows the variable directivity control and low-frequency dispersion control comparable to use a large constant directivity horn speaker. a choice of 4 directivity angles (15, 30, 45 and 60 degrees) can be employed as needed.
