Purpose:
The purpose of this project was to enhance communications and public safety within the event pavilion and paddleboat area of Chinguacousy Park. As a high-traffic section of the park that regularly hosts community events, recreational activities, and seasonal programs, this area requires clear, consistent audio coverage to facilitate announcements, support daily operations, and improve emergency communication capabilities. By focusing on this key gathering space, the project aimed to create a safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable experience for both park visitors and staff while supporting the park's role as a central hub for community engagement.
Challenges:
Designing an effective sound and communications system for the event pavilion and paddleboat area presented several unique challenges due to the site's mixed indoor and outdoor environment. The designed solution needed to deliver clear, intelligible audio across outdoor spaces while also providing consistent coverage within sheltered and enclosed areas. Exposure to changing weather conditions, including rain, wind, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and seasonal extremes, required equipment capable of maintaining reliable performance year-round.
Additionally, environmental factors such as ambient noise from park activities, crowds, recreational facilities, and nearby water features had to be considered to ensure announcements remained audible and understandable. The solution therefore needed to balance durability, coverage, and audio clarity while seamlessly supporting the diverse operational, recreational, and event-related needs of this high-use community space.
Solution:
To address the communication needs of the event pavilion and paddleboat area, the finalized system of several TOA products/series were chosen to accommodate the unique requirements of a mixed indoor and outdoor environment. The solution utilized our F-Ceiling speakers within indoor and enclosed areas to deliver clear, consistent sound for visitors and staff. In the sheltered and outdoor portions of the facility, our CS-Series horn speakers were selected to provide effective audio projection and intelligibility across larger open spaces. A centralized system headend was also incorporated to provide dependable power distribution and signal management, ensuring reliable operation across all speaker zones. Together, these components created a cohesive communications solution capable of supporting daily operations, public announcements, and community events throughout the area.

The completed sound system is now live and can be experienced by the thousands of visitors who enjoy Chinguacousy Park throughout the year. Whether attending a community event, visiting the pavilion, or spending time in the paddleboat area, guests benefit from clear, consistent audio that supports both daily operations and public communications.
