Purpose

A staple of the Nova Scotia education landscape, NCSS reviewed their safety and security Infrastructure and realized they needed to upgrade. The life safety and security systems needed to improve to reduce the risk of students, faculty and property. A solution was required to centralize and automate alarm monitoring and alerting/incident-management, including mass notification, without having to rip out and replace legacy systems.

Challenge

A project of this magnitude had many challenges with the obvious one being how to address the geographical challenge of a sprawling campus. The new system would need the ability to integrate with the chosen security management system and legacy equipment that was already installed. NCSS searched for a mass notification system that demonstrated and effective system that was simple to operate, automated and dependable. The new system would need to have one central location for monitoring, easy to maintain and work with third party equipment and software.

Solution

After choosing Status Solutions for the management system, NCSS selected TOA VM-3000 Series Integrated Voice Evacuation System that complied with UL 2572 and CAN/ULC-S576 listings. Working in conjunction with the management software the campus were easily connected, centralized for monitoring and provide all the features required. Many VM-3000 equipment were used across various buildings supported by a large quantity of speakers. Real time monitoring permitted quick response to small to larger incidents. Messages could quickly be sent by email, text or phone. Information was not easily and quickly send to all locations to warn of any issues. TOA connectivity also made the integration of legacy equipment trouble free.

Feedback

In the end, NCSS received the type of system that enhanced the safety and security of all Individuals at the school by leaps and bounds. They are very happy with the resulting communication system and continue to make additions as required warranted. Great work by all parties involved.
