The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is a unique healthcare organization with three primary roles. It provides acute care services to North Bay and its surrounding communities. The gross building area is 725,000 ft. sq. The facility includes the full range of departments normally found in a regional acute-care, 275-bed hospital, plus a new facility for the Northeast Mental Health Centre.
TOA already had some equipment in the North Bay Healthcare Facility, so it was not a surprise when a new project arrived with a request for an overhaul of the Public Announcement system. The customer required more zone to have direct paging and an improvement to the clarity of speaker sound.
The main challenge was the creativity to increase the multi zone paging which required The SP-11N SIP module and a couple of other communication enhancement modules.
TOA changed the headend with the M-9000M2 Digital matrix mixer which allowed for easier integration with the other TOA equipment. Paging microphones were updated to the PM-660U and an additional ZM control panel was used. Considering the importance of having intelligible audio in a healthcare facility, they selected the high quality F-Series ceiling and box speakers across the building.
Once completed, the connectivity and improved audio was noticeable and sta member were very happy and felt the changes improved patient safety and their own.
