Purpose

The objective of this project was to provide a reliable arena sound system that could support hockey games, public skating sessions, community programming, and special events. Clear speech intelligibility and consistent audio coverage were essential to ensure announcements could be heard throughout the facility.

Challenges

The facility required effective audio coverage across spectator seating areas while also maintaining sufficient sound levels on the ice surface. As with many community arenas, the project needed to balance performance, coverage, and cost-effectiveness. Achieving high speech intelligibility within a large, reverberant space while staying within budget was a key design consideration.

Solutions

The finalized system was a practical and efficient audio solution tailored to the arena's unique requirements. HS-1500BT speakers were strategically deployed to provide focused coverage across the spectator stands while ensuring announcements and event audio remained audible on the ice surface. By focusing coverage on the primary audience areas while maintaining adequate distribution throughout the facility, the system achieved an effective balance of intelligibility, performance, and value.

Feedback

The completed system has proven to be an effective solution for a smaller community arena, delivering clear and consistent audio coverage where it matters most. The design approach was noted as highly repeatable, and serves as a strong model for other arenas where spectator seating areas are the primary focus while still requiring adequate coverage of the playing surface.
