TOA Corporation, 75 Years Young

During SeptTOA Logoember 2009, TOA Corporation celebrates its 75th year in business. In 1934 Tsunetaro Nakantani founded the Toa Electric Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in Kobe Japan, manufacturing Microphones. TOA has since grown to become one of the leading professional and commercial sound and security product manufacturers in the world.

TOA products range from digital amplifiers and speakers, to mixers, wireless microphone systems and digital processors used in sound reinforcement, to integrated VOIP intercom and camera systems for security and communications.

TOA Canada Corporation was formed in 1990 as a complete sound solutions provider. In recent years our focus has expanded to include public address and voice communication systems for use in safety and security installations, as well as products for evacuation intercom and CCTV systems.

Today, TOA products can be found worldwide in venues such as the Olympics, including Beijing and Nagano, Vienna State Opera House, Tokyo International Airport, and many of Japan’s airports and transit stations, many of Canada’s east coast airports, Porsche Arena, Mount Sinai Hospital, BC Ferries, and McDonald’s, just to name a few.

  • 1934: Production and sales of horn speakers, microphones and amplifiers begin
  • 1953: Exports to India, TOA's first overseas trade
  • 1954: Tokyo Office established
  • 1954: Corporate Philosophy developed
  • 1957: Japan's first transistorized megaphone, the ER‐57, is developed is developed
  • 1964: TOA broadcasting equipment chosen for 31 locations around Tokyo Olympic Games venues
  • 1965: ACOUS Co., Ltd. founded
  • 1970: TOA Communications Co., Ltd. established (now TOA Engineering Co., Ltd.)
  • 1970: Takeo TOA Co., Ltd. established (now TAKEX Co., Ltd.).
  • 1970: TOA equipment used for Osaka's Expo '70
  • 1972: Pasco Co., Ltd. established
  • 1973: TAKITSU Co., Ltd. founded
  • 1974: TOA Electronics Deutschland Gmbh established in Hamburg (reorganized in 1983)
  • 1974: TOA Electronics, Inc. established in San Francisco
  • 1975: Joint venture P.T. TOA Galva Industries founded in Jakarta, Indonesia
  • 1977: U.K. Branch opened (reorganized as a company in 1983)
  • 1977: Stock listed on the Second Section of the Osaka Stock Exchange
  • 1983: TOA enters the intercom market, introducing ten new products including door phones
  • 1983: CCTV (closed circuit television) system developed
  • 1985: New corporate logo introduced
  • 1989: Toa Electric Co., Ltd. was renamed TOA Corporation
  • 1989: TOA Electronics Taiwan Corporation established in Taipei
  • 1990: TOA Canada Corporation established in Ontario
  • 1992: International Standardization Organization (ISO) certification obtained
  • 1995: Hong Kong Office incorporated as TOA (Hong Kong) Ltd.
  • 1998: TOA Buys BBM company in England
  • 1990’s TOA Corporation has been found on both the Tokyo and Osaka stock exchange.
  • 2001: TOA’s Takarazuka headquarters earns ISO 14001 certification for environmental compatibility
  • 2002: TOA's wholly owned subsidiary, TOA Electronics PTE Ltd., is established in Singapore
  • 2002: TOA's wholly owned subsidiary, TOA Vietnam Co., Ltd., is established in Vietnam
  • 2003: TOA's wholly owned subsidiary, TOA China Ltd., is established in China.
  • 2003: Construction of new factory of ACOUS Co., Ltd. completed
  • 2007: Joint venture , PT. TOA GALINDRA ELECTRONICS, is established in Indonesia
  • 2008: TOA Electronics (M) Sdn. Bhd, a Malaysian overseas subsidiary, is established
  • 2008: Involvement in many facilities at the Beijing Olympics, including the Main Stadium and Olympic Village
